My Personal Favourite Gibraltar Wedding Venues (And Why They’re Perfect for a Stylish Elopement)

Planning a wedding in Gibraltar?
These are the Gibraltar wedding venues I recommend again and again.
If you’re flying in from the UK or US and choosing to elope here, you don’t want endless venue lists.
You want the right options.
The kind that feel elevated.
Beautiful.
Effortless.
After 10+ years photographing elopements here, these are my three personal favourites:
The Dell at Gibraltar Botanical Gardens
Each venue creates a completely different experience - and the right one depends on the kind of day you want to have.
Let’s break them down properly.

The Dell at Gibraltar Botanical Garden
The Dell is one of the most popular ceremony locations in Gibraltar for small weddings.
It’s part of the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (Alameda Gardens), and it’s designed specifically for intimate ceremonies.
The space is set up with curved stone seating, mature trees, and landscaped greenery all around.
It feels structured and organised — not wild or overgrown.
The setting works well year-round because the gardens are maintained carefully, so it always looks neat and photo-ready.
The Dell allows up to 25 guests.
That makes it ideal if:
You’re inviting immediate family only
You want a small, focused ceremony
You don’t need a large reception space
You don’t need to spend heavily on décor here.
The location already looks finished and balanced.
If your style is clean and modern - tailored suit, structured dress, simple bouquet - the green backdrop gives strong contrast and keeps your photos looking polished.
Another major advantage is convenience.
Because it’s inside the gardens, we can move straight into portraits immediately after the ceremony.
Another major advantage is the location. The Dell is directly opposite the Rock Hotel.
Many couples don’t realise this, but it makes planning much easier. You can have your ceremony at The Dell and host drinks or dinner at the Rock Hotel without complicated transport.
It’s a short, simple walk between the two. That proximity allows you to combine a garden ceremony with a terrace reception overlooking the bay. It also gives us flexibility with portraits - we can use the gardens, the hotel terrace, and nearby viewpoints without building in long travel gaps.

Alameda Open Air Theatre
Another option inside the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens is the Alameda Open Air Theatre.
This space is larger and more structured than The Dell.
It’s an actual outdoor theatre with tiered seating and a defined stage area, which makes it suitable for slightly bigger guest numbers or couples who want a more formal setup.
If you’re planning:
A ceremony with more than 25 guests
A symbolic ceremony
Or a celebration-style setup with clear seating layout
This can be a strong alternative.
The theatre gives you a clear focal point for the ceremony, and the tiered seating means every guest has a good view.
Visually, it feels more architectural than The Dell.
You still get the greenery of the gardens, but with stronger lines and more structure in the background.
From a photography perspective, the elevated seating creates interesting angles and allows for wide shots that show the full setting.
And just like The Dell, it’s located directly across from the Rock Hotel.
That means you can combine:
Garden ceremony → short walk → terrace drinks or dinner at Rock Hotel
For couples who want a larger guest list but still love the idea of a garden setting, the Alameda Open Air Theatre is worth considering when looking at Gibraltar wedding venues.

Sunborn Hotel
Sunborn Yacht Hotel is one of the most popular Gibraltar wedding venues for couples who want their day to feel like a real celebration.
It’s a five-star yacht hotel located in Ocean Village Marina, which gives it a modern, distinctive setting right on the water.
The main feature for weddings is the outdoor deck. It offers open marina views and enough space to host both your ceremony and reception in one place. Many couples choose
Sunborn because everything can happen on site - getting ready, ceremony, drinks, and dinner - without needing transport.
That simplicity is especially helpful if you’re planning from abroad.
The marina location also means you’re surrounded by restaurants and bars, making it easy to continue the celebration after your reception.
If you’re looking for a venue that feels modern, lively, and easy to manage, Sunborn is a strong option.
You can read more detailed planning advice in my full Sunborn Wedding Guide.

The Rock Hotel
The Rock Hotel is probably my favourite hotel in Gibraltar.
It has a classic colonial style that feels established and elegant without being over the top.
One of the biggest advantages is its location - it’s just minutes from Alameda Gardens, which makes it incredibly convenient if you’re planning your ceremony at The Dell or the Open Air Theatre.
The views from the terrace stretch across the Bay of Gibraltar, and they’re especially beautiful in late afternoon light.
It also has a stunning pool area surrounded by greenery, which gives us extra options for relaxed portraits away from crowds.
If you want a venue that feels polished, well-run, and visually impressive without being flashy, Rock Hotel is a very strong choice among Gibraltar wedding venues.

FAQ

What are the best wedding venues in Gibraltar?
The most popular Gibraltar wedding venues are:
- The Dell at Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (ideal for small ceremonies up to 25 guests)
- Alameda Open Air Theatre (for larger guest numbers)
- Sunborn Yacht Hotel (modern marina setting with on-site reception options)
- Rock Hotel (classic terrace venue with panoramic bay views)
- The Mount (private estate-style venue for larger, exclusive weddings)
The right venue depends on your guest number, preferred style, and whether you want everything in one location.
HOW MUCH DO GIBRALTAR WEDDING VENUES COST?
Venue costs vary depending on location and guest size.
Garden venues such as The Dell or Alameda Open Air Theatre typically involve a hire fee through the Botanic Gardens.
Hotels like Sunborn and Rock Hotel usually provide package pricing based on food, drinks, and guest numbers.
Private venues like The Mount are typically higher investment due to exclusivity and full private hire.
Because Gibraltar has a limited number of venues, pricing reflects demand — especially in peak months (April–June and September–October).
What is the maximum number of guests allowed at Gibraltar wedding venues?
Capacity depends entirely on the venue:
- The Dell - up to 25 guests
- Alameda Open Air Theatre - suitable for significantly larger weddings
- Sunborn Yacht Hotel - flexible depending on deck setup
- Rock Hotel - suitable for medium to larger celebrations
- The Mount - designed for larger private events
Your guest count should be the first decision you make before confirming a venue.
Can foreigners legally get married at Gibraltar wedding venues?
Yes.
Gibraltar is very popular with international couples because the legal process is straightforward compared to many other European destinations.
Many couples travel from the UK and US specifically to marry here.
Once your legal paperwork is approved, you can hold your ceremony at one of the approved Gibraltar wedding venues or combine a registry ceremony with a symbolic celebration at your chosen location.
Are Gibraltar wedding venues suitable for elopements?
Gibraltar is one of the best places in Europe for elopements.
The small size of the peninsula makes logistics simple.
Venues like The Dell are perfectly suited to intimate weddings, while hotels like Sunborn allow you to turn a small ceremony into a full celebration without needing a large guest list.
If you want a wedding that feels intentional, elegant, and easy to manage from abroad, Gibraltar works extremely well.
When is the best time of year to book Gibraltar wedding venues?
Spring and autumn are the most popular seasons due to comfortable temperatures and softer light.
Summer weddings are possible but should be planned carefully around heat and timing.
Because there are only a limited number of Gibraltar wedding venues, booking 9–12 months in advance is recommended for peak dates.

Choosing the Right Gibraltar Wedding Venue
Gibraltar may be small, but that’s actually one of its strengths.
There aren’t endless venue options - which means every location has been used, tested, and refined for weddings.
The key factor when choosing between Gibraltar wedding venues is your guest count.
If you’re planning something intimate with under 25 guests, The Dell is ideal.
If you’re inviting more family and want a full celebration setting, Sunborn or Rock Hotel will give you more space and flexibility.
Beyond numbers, it’s about experience.
Do you want a garden ceremony?
A modern marina backdrop?
Or a classic terrace with panoramic views?
Each venue creates a completely different feel for your day - and that choice shapes your timeline, your photos, and the overall flow of your elopement.
If you’re unsure which one fits your plans, tell me your guest number, your preferred date, and the kind of atmosphere you’re drawn to.
I’ll help you narrow it down and make sure your venue choice supports a smooth, well-planned, and beautifully photographed wedding day.
